Abstract

In order to investigate the effect of specimen configuration on ageing deterioration of silicone rubber for polymer insulators, cyclic salt fog ageing test was conducted on insulator type specimens compared with plain rods without sheds. After 50 test cycles, tracking was observed only on RTV( Room Temperature Vulcanized ) SiR (Silicone Rubber) rod and severe erosion was observed on straight shed insulator in spite of having longer leakage distance compared with rod specimen made of the same HTV (High Temperature Vulcanized) SiR.
