Abstract
Rate constants are reported for the reaction ofcis-Pt(4-CNpy)2Cl2 with thiourea in aqueous solutions of potassium chloride, gadolinium chloride, and tetraethylammonium chloride. From these kinetic results and measurements of solubilities of the two reactants in the respective salt solutions the observed reactivity trends are analysed into initial state and transition state contributions. The results of this analysis are compared with those from other substitutions in aqueous salt solutions. Setchenow coefficients are reported forcis-Pt(4-CNpy)2Cl2 and for thiourea, and for the transition state for the reaction between them.
