Abstract
Sialorrhea is a common and potentially debilitating problem that may arise in children with neurologic disorders, such as cerebral palsy. Excessive drooling may lead to serious quality of life problems in addition to serious life-threatening problems, ie, recurrent pneumonitis, secondary to aspiration of secretions. Numerous medical and surgical procedures have been proposed for the treatment of this problem. The technique of 4-duct ligation is described. This technique does not require external neck incisions and allows a short hospitalization with a rapid recovery time. A total of 21 patients undergoing 4-duct ligation for chronic sialorrhea reported good to excellent results, with a low complication rate. This technique is an excellent alternative to other medical and surgical options for neurologically impaired patients with chronic sialorrhea.
