Abstract

Isotretinoin is a retinoid considered a gold standard in the treatment of acne and studies show that hyposalivation and xerostomia may be adverse effects. Therefore, we evaluate the effect of this treatment on salivary flow (SF) through a systematic review of the literature with meta-analysis. We also evaluated changes in the secondary salivary buffer capacity (BC) with regards to a possible salivary hypoflow. We searched the main databases, including gray literature. From the search strategy, we found 577 articles. By following the PRISMA flow diagram, we submitted 3 studies to meta-analysis to evaluate changes in SF.
