AbstractAlthough the development of salinization in European soils and waters is less of a problem than in Asia, Africa and Australia, The impact in Europe is likely to be worse because of the much greater interference with stored pollutants. Three types of salinization are discussed here: salinization caused by faulty irrigation, increased evapotranspiration and rises in sea‐level. the potential activation of the chemical time bombs due to climatic changes and the development of the co‐tolerance of plants to metal pollution and increased salinity is considered.
