Abstract

It has been proposed that salicylic acid (SA) acts as an endogenous signal molecule responsible for inducing abiotic stress tolerance in plants. The effect of salicylic acid (SA) supply in varied concentrations (0, 50, 75 and 100 mM/L) on growth, total polyphenolic content and antioxidant activity NaCl-stressed (0, 50, 100, 150 mM/kg) was investigated. Exogenously applied SA increased plant growth significantly both in saline and non-saline conditions. As a consequence of salinity stress studied parameters decreased while increasing levels of SA increased growth, total polyphenolic content and antioxidant activity. These results suggest that SA could be used as a potential growth regulator to improve plant salinity stress resistance.
