Abstract
During the first few years after independence, Saha realized that there was lack of clarity about priorities and method of national planning, industrialization, health and education. When projects of national importance such as river valley project, multipurpose river schemes etc. were mismanaged, he decided to raise his voice against it from the floor of Parliament. He contested the general election of Parliament from Calcutta north-west constituency and became a member of Parliament in 1952. He participated in many debates and discussions in Parliament. The range of topics was amazing. For example, higher education, university grant commission, multipurpose river schemes, Damodar Valley project, oil exploration, tariff commission, five year plan, railway budget, finance bill, Atomic Energy Commission, state reorganization and so on.
