Abstract

Scaffoldings are most important part of a construction project. Failure of these is a major concern nowadays. However proper planning of scaffolding is still neglected which leads to unsafe job conditions. This paper focuses on providing safety plans for scaffolding using Building Information Modeling (BIM) considering their cost and duration. The system generates many scaffolding plans and evaluates them in terms of safety, cost and duration. By analyzing project requirements and potential safety hazards, the plan which is best suited considering safety, cost and duration is selected amongst the various generated plans. Objective of this study is to identify major causes of scaffolding accidents and hazards caused due to improper planning of scaffolding.
