Abstract
The general working stress GS (the sum of design stress and residual stress) of a vessel, can be effectively controlled by means of a warm preloading treatment. When the preload factor is around 2, the maximum GS in the preloaded vessel is less than 0·87 yield strength of vessel material. Therefore an apparent improvement of safety performance of the preloaded vessel can be achieved.
