Abstract

Background: Video capsule endoscopy (CE) is a helpful diagnostic tool. There is a hypothetical potential for interference between the digital radiofrequency of the capsule and an implantable cardiac defibrillator (ICD). Because of this concern and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommendations, the manufacturer (Given) has listed the presence of an implanted cardiac device as a relative contraindication to the use in the presence of ICD. Aim: To report the use of wireless video capsule endoscopy (Given®) in four patients with implanted cardiac defibrillators.
