ALLAN V. BAYLESS HAD A NOVEL idea for getting safety messages across to his Procter & Gamble colleagues. And rather than seek permission through official channels, he just went ahead and put his idea into practice. In retrospect, the chemical hygiene officer told C&EN, don't know if management would have given me approval if I had asked for it. Bayless' concept, which he discussed during a Division of Chemical Health & Safety symposium on training programs, was to put up brief safety-related potty postings—also called toilet tabloids—in bathroom stalls at the firm's Health Care Research Center in Mason, Ohio.
