Abstract

Vehicle electrification largely depends upon the performance and reliability of the electrical energy storage system. This guideline is intended to focus primarily on safety requirements, and more specifically on those above the typical operating parameters, such as peak short circuit currents up to 4000 Amps as in the case of a severe malfunction. Tremendous arc energies have to be handled safely by the main contactors. In this presentation, the interaction of melt fuses on these contactors/relays as well as the necessity of pre charge circuits used for protection, will be further explored.
