Abstract

In recent years the incorporation of probiotic bacteria into foods has received increasing scientific interest for health promotion and disease prevention. Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Lactobacillus reuteri were used to manufacture yoghurt supported with probiotic strains for feed experimental animals. The experimental animals were divided into two groups, first received basal diet for 4 weeks, other group was fed by basal diet containing yogurt with probiotic strains. The results indicated that the feed with fermented milk contain probiotic strains allow the strains to grow in intestinal track and to produce one or more antimicrobial substances. This substance may have effect on intestinal track or other organ after absorption in blood. Histopathological examination of liver and kidney of rats revealed normally structure were observed after receiving the Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Lactobacillus reuteri. Results of this study demonstrated that consumption of strain Lactobacillus was not associated with any signs of toxicity in rats, no adverse effects on rat’s general health status and no deleterious effect on liver and kidney structural even following consumption of large quantities. The conclusion of this study revealed nonpathogenic and safe for consumption. Keywords : Lactobacillus rhamnosus , Lactobacillus reuteri, Histopathological , liver; kidney and rats
