Abstract
Objective To analyze the safety and feasibility of adrenal venous blood sampling (AVS) through median cubital vein pathway. Methods A total of 60 patients with primary aldosteronism who were admitted to our hospital from April, 2018 to February, 2019 were selected and took AVS to determine the type. They were divided into a control group an a study group using the random number table method, with 30 cases in each group. The control group took AVS through the conventional femoral vein route, and the study group through median cubital vein pathway. The success rate, operation, and complications of AVS were compared between the two groups. Results There was no statistical difference in the success rate of AVS on the left side between the study group and the control group (96.67% vs. 93.33%; P>0.05), but were on the right side and on both sides (93.33% vs. 66.67% and 90.00% vs. 66.67%; both P 0.05). There was no statistical difference in the incidence of complications between the study group and the control group (3.33% vs. 6.67%, P>0.05). Conclusion The success rate of bilateral and right side of AVS through the median cubital vein is high, feasible, and safe, with a shorter operation time than that of that through femoral vein, so it is worth being clinically generalized. Key words: Primary aldosteronism; Adrenal vein blood sampling; Median cubital vein pathway; Safety
