Abstract

Pre-lung transplant patients reporting penicillin allergy present a unique population that would benefit from an Allergy consultation. Appropriate use of antimicrobial agents decrease the risk of developing pathogenic and opportunistic infections. Penicillin is the only beta-lactam antimicrobial agent with a standardized skin test. A detailed history, exam, skin tests and ingestion challenge can be performed safely in this vulnerable patient population.
