Abstract

This paper presents a probabilistic analysis of the safety of a railway traffic system. The fault tree technique has been used for this purpose. Main traffic accidents—top events of fault trees—have been analysed down to the level of human errors and hardware failures. The chosen reliability characteristics regarding basic and top events of fault trees have been calculated as safety parameters of railway traffic lines. The proposed method has been applied to the railway traffic cross in Slovenia. Each line in the traffic cross has been analysed separately, and finally a comparative analysis of all lines has been performed.
