Abstract

For the purpose of local texture analysis in the TEM a dedicated reflection holder and a 14-bit slow scan CCD-camera with 1024x1024 pixel resolution are installed with a 300 kV Philips EM430 TEM. The system permits selected area diffraction (SAD) pole figure measurement either in conventional transmission or in reflection mode with spatial resolution of 1 μm or 50 μm, respectively. The time required for a complete pole figure measurement is reduced by an order of magnitude as compared to a sequential intensity measurement. This leads to more reliable results as the long term instability of the TEM is overcome. The diffraction images are grabbed and stored in permanent computer memory. Several corrections or a first ODF interpretation may take place immediately after pole figure measurement has been finished. Experimental results of SAD pole figure measurement are presented.
