Abstract

This chapter proposes the celebration of the Eucharist receive consideration as a core Christian practice in Christian formation. As body, mind, and spirit coalesce in eucharistic worship, the experience of union with Christ and his transformational love is intensified in the celebration. The chapter begins with a biblical examination of Paul’s exposition of eucharistic κοινωνία in 1 Corinthians 10–11, followed by a historical exploration of patristic eucharistic liturgy and John Calvin’s pneumatological emphasis in his eucharistic theology. It closes with a section on liturgical formation, suggesting further interdisciplinary research into the topic. This theological model for understanding the Holy Spirit’s role in the Eucharist offers possibilities for constructive ecclesial dialogue among Protestant, Catholic, and Pentecostal communities within the Christian renewal movement.
