Abstract

The study investigates journalism training inside the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC). At the time when the study was conducted the Corporation had no full in-house journalism training scheme and the option of broadcast journalism courses outside the SABC were limited. By 1995 major changes came about and training programs were revised (see below). The article looks at the SABC's training policy and key problems encountered in training at the Corporation. It should be noted that the historical focus of this article is the early 1990s up to 1993. Since the SABC is in a process of transformation, some of the statements, as well as data given, might not apply in 1995. Also see the postscript.
