Abstract

Self-expanding metal stent (SEMS) are used as a non-surgical alternative for the palliation of luminal or extraluminal gastrointestinal neoplasm. They also have a similar success rate as surgical palliation (approximately 90%) but are associated with a faster recovery and less morbidity.
