Abstract

Duodenal adenomas are found in 0.3-4.6% of patients presenting for EGD. Standard polypectomy with the use of electrocautery is typically used to resect the adenoma. However, complications including bleeding, perforation and pain can occur in up to 5% due to the thin duodenal wall. Banding the adenoma without the use of electrocautery (band and slough) may decrease complication rates without adversely affecting the outcome.
