Abstract
Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are rare submucosal tumors with a malignant potential, which comprise the majority of mesenchymal tumors. Approximately 95% of GISTs express CD117, which aids in the distinction of GISTs from other mesenchymal tumors. This is imperative as prognosis and treatment vary amongst these tumors. Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) has the ability to visualize the distinct layers of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and characterize lesions, and has played an important role in the initial evaluation of submucosal tumors.
