Abstract

ERCP drainage of complex malignant hilar strictures (Bismuth II, III and IV) poses particular difficulties. Ideally, these patients should be referred to specialized centers because there are needed more skills than for treatment of distal Common Bile Duct obstructions. However, we found problems for patients' referral and an unacceptable delay for jaundice relief frequently occurred. To overcome such problem we have established in our Hospital a standardized protocol of drainage to achieve the greatest success as possible.
