Abstract
Lumen-apposing metal stents (LAMS) have been designed as proprietary stents for the management of pseudocysts (PC)/walled off necrosis (WON). Recently, however there has been concern at our institution and others about a high adverse event rate with LAMS including bleeding, buried stent syndrome and migration (22% adverse event rate at our institution). Prior to LAMS becoming available, fully covered self-expandable metal esophageal and biliary stents (FCSEMSs) were used off-label for management of pseudocysts/WON with many centers demonstrating a low rate of adverse events. Furthermore, the cost of FCSEMS in the US is significantly less than LAMS. AIMS: The primary aim of this study was to study the safety and efficacy of FCSEMS for the management of pseudocysts/WON at our institution.
