Conclusions: The ratio of length of common limb/ total length of the small bowel is an important factor for weight loss after gastric bypass surgery, defining an optimal ratio between 0.14 and 0.33 with a least of 100 cm as common limb length. Bariatric surgeons could individualize their surgery by choosing the length of the common channel according to total small bowel length measured during laparoscopic RYGB.
