Abstract

Immediate and delayed endoscopic biliary sphincterotomy (EBS) bleeding is an avoidable adverse event. Hemostasis technique include conventional balloon tamponade, application of electrocoagulation, hemoclip application or injection therapy. We described a hemostasis technique using a covered self-expandable metallic stent (SEMS) to prevent the post-EBS bleeding in high risk patients or post endoscopic sphincterotomy bleeding. Our endoscopic unit placed the first full covered metallic stent for postendoscopic sphinterotomy bleeding in desember 2009. The patient had a sclerosing cholangitis and we performed a re esphincterotomy.
