Abstract

This study aims to realize the preservation and utilization of machine tools which are being kept by the Kyushu University Museum and had been used for engineering education on machine shop practice of the former Department of Mechanical Engineering, Production Division, faculty of engineering, Kyushu University, from the era of establishment of the university (1910s) to the campus relocation in 2005. In the present report the curriculum of the engineering education and the contents of the subject of machine shop practice in this department, including the other related department on mechanical engineering in the university, are introduced. After the feature of the education program of machine shop practice which was developed by this department (Production Division) is described, it is shown that the education program is still growing with keeping the "spirit of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Kyushu University". Finally, it is concluded that the machine tools which are being kept in the museum are very important for the histories of technology and engineering education.
