of MT and Trp. Furthermore, treatment with MT and Trp suppressed the expression of mRNAs for proinflammatory cytokines in ulcer area, but failed to affect the expression of HIF-1α and VEGF. Conclusions: MT promotes ulcer healing. This effect is mediated by suppression of proinflammatory cytokines and release of gastrin and PGE2 , the most potent stimulants of gastric mucosal cell proliferation and mucosal repair. Ulcer healing effects of MT can be interfered by the inhibition of MT2R and COX-2-PG or NOS-NO system.
