Abstract

En bloc resection is preferred for laterally spreading tumours of the colon, but is limited to 20 mm with EMR using normal saline (NS) submucosal (SM) injection. We have shown that succinylated gelatin (Gelofusine®, B.Braun, Switzerland), a commonly available plasma volume expander, increases resection size by 42% when compared to NS in blinded porcine experiments. Therefore, our aims were to compare efficacy and safety of CSI-EMR versus conventional EMR for en bloc resection of 40x40mm lesions using succinylated gelatin (SG) SM injection.
