Abstract

Pneumatic balloon dilation for achalasia is associated with a high risk of perforation and routine esophagrams are often obtained after dilation even in asymptomatic patients. There is no data regarding the clinical utility of routinely performed esophagrams for detection of esophageal perforation after achalasia dilation.
