Abstract

tain conditions cannot grow or survive in the absence of a supportive microenvironment. Indeed, the microenvironment may even drive tumor and metastasis development. By using a series of tumor and metastasis expression profile datasets we seek to identify those signaling mediators responsible for metastatic BC interaction with the stroma. Collectively, these results showed that genes selected for metastasis also represent the random accumulation of traits that provide the necessary advantage for adaptation to a different organ microenvironment.
