Abstract
Fluid film bearings are widely used for IT spindle such as Hard Disk Drives (HDDs), optical disks. Especially HDD has an opportunity to vibrate during operation because of using many mobile devices such as mobile PCs and video cameras etc recently. Therefore, fluid film bearings for the spindles are demanded to improve the dynamics characteristics to minimize the vibration of the shaft. The oil film coefficients which are spring and damping coefficients are analyzed theoretically by many researchers. However, so far, experimental research has been limited because the spindle consists of a pair of upper and lower journal bearings. In this paper, we describe a method of identification of oil film coefficients experimentally. At first, we measured the displacement response of the fluid film bearing vibrated by disturbance, after that conducted curve fitting to identify the oil film coefficients experimentally.
