Abstract

The crowning profile design method proposed by Sugiura et al. is valuable even though it's an age-old technology. The defect of their method is it cannot be applied to the case when the stress concentration is generated at any place other than roller end, for example raceway edges where undercuts exist. Therefore it is said the above method is not sufficient as design tool. Improved method, "Multi-Point LP Method", has been proposed for rolling fatigue life prediction, and its validity has been reported in the full-crowning roller cases. In this article, the follow-on assessment of Multi-Point LP Method will be reported by taking up the issue of the cut-crowning roller fatigue life prediction.
