Abstract

Objective of the present study is development of a system for determining machine setting parameters of Gleason hypoid generators using a neural network. The present paper describes the method of calculating the tooth form generated by a cutter motion using a computer simulation and relationships between machine setting parameters and the tooth form. As a result, the vertical and the horizontal displacements affect only the helix angle of the cut gear. The machine root angle also changes the helix angle and affects the pressure angle and the tooth thickness as well. The helix angle and the tooth thickness also depend on the machine center to back.
