Abstract

Adults with a history of childhood maltreatment have been shown to have higher basal levels of inflammatory markers. When faced with an acute psychological stressor, healthy adults with a history of childhood abuse show increased inflammatory responses, but diminished activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary adrenal axis. Little is known about how adults with childhood trauma respond to an acute inflammatory challenge in the form of a vaccine.
