Abstract
In relation to the efficiency of heat pump system, basic experimental researches have been carried out on the heat transfer coefficient and frosting and defrosting phenomena on the single fin under forced convection and natural convection conditions. Heat transfer coefficient under forced convective air flow showed results consistent with previous researches. Heat transfer experiments were also carried out on fms coated with heat conductive paints. For stainless steel fin, heat transfer coefficients were augmented with coating of heat conductive paint whereas heat transfer coefficients were unchanged for cupper fin with coating. Frosting and defrosting phenomena were observed for fins under natural convection. Frost grew from the bottom of the fin and covered the whole fin. When defrosting, frost melted from the bottom of the fin and melted water absorbed the frost remaining at the top of the fin.
