Abstract

Characteristics of jets issuing from an exit with three kinds of large aspect ratio opened on semi-circular convex sides were examined. The jet exit cross-section is rectangular of height h= 9, 12 and 15mm and length b=144mmm, with aspect ratio b/h=16, 12 and 9.6, respectively. Jet Reynolds number based on exit mean velocity and h was 11700. Measurements of the stream-wise mean velocity, turbulence intensity and the jet half-velocity widths were performed. The normalized mean stream-wise velocity decay on the jet centerline, the lateral profiles of the normalized mean velocity and of the turbulence intensity in the development region of the jet and the distributions of the jet half velocity widths in stream-wise direction were similar to the characteristics of two dimensional jet.
