Abstract

We studied the flow field of glycerol exposed to air jet flow above its free surface filled inside two parallel flat walls. The gap in the walls of was varied from 1 to 4mm, the distance from the bottom of the nozzle to the glycerol surface h was from 0 to 10mm, and the jet Reynolds number was varied from Re=5×10^3 to 11×10^3. The velocity distribution in the glycerol was measured by means of PIV. The shear stress applied on the surface of the glycerol was computed from the measured velocity distribution. Momentum transfer was larger when the nozzle was set near the glycerol surface, i.e. the smaller h. There was a maximum in shear stress under specific gap d.
