Abstract

Effects of aerodynamic tab geometry on exhaust noise from a rectangular plug nozzle were investigated experimentally. A 1/100-scaled model of the rectangular plug nozzle for the pre-cooled turbojet engine planed in JAXA is manufactured and the exhaust noise characteristics were investigated. Take off condition of the vehicle were simulated. The nozzle pressure ratio is 2.7. Aerodynamic tabs were used as a noise reduction device. There are three types of aerodynamic tab geometries, namely, 4 kinds of round nozzles, 2 kinds of wedge nozzles and a slit nozzle. Sound pressure measurements were carried out. It was shown that by use of wedge and slit nozzles, the aerodynamic tab mass flow rate, necessary to gain 2.0 dB reduction in OASPL, decreases by 16 % when compared with round nozzles.
