Abstract

Computer simulations of particle method based on the Stokes dynamics were performed in order to examine the distribution of suspended micron-size particles in the magnetic functional fluids such as magnetic fluids and MR fluids. In our simulations, we investigated the structure formation of micron-size magnetic and nonmagnetic particles. It is shown that the micron-size magnetic particles in both magnetic fluids and MR fluids form chain-like clusters in the field direction. Chain-like clusters of nonmagnetic particles appear in magnetic compound fluids under steady uniform magnetic field, while nonmagnetic particles in MR fluids are pushed into the space of microstructure formed by chain-like clusters of magnetic particles.
