Abstract

We have discussed the characteristic of interferometer type optical fiber sensors to detect acoustic emission signals in the water. It was demonstrated that the proposed sensor is useful to obtain waveform data corresponding to the longitudinal wave propagated in the water. The influences of the size of the sensing head on the sensitivity was revealed based on the experiments using the simulated AE source. It was found that the sensor can detect the longitudinal wave in the water and the sensitivity depends on the length of the sensing region.
