Abstract

Functionally graded TiNi shape memory alloy wires were fabricated using powder metallurgy and plastic working processes. The wires have several compositions and transformation temperatures within a material. Tensile tests at room temperature were conducted in order to investigate the mechanical properties of the wires. Following results are obtained; the wire fabricated by hot-extrusion shows both shape memory effect and superelasticity. The young's modulus of the part which shows shape memory effect is about 25GPa and that of superelastic part is about 45GPa.
