Abstract

KL 2,3 L 2,3 spectator Auger transitions following S 1s and Cl 1s excitations were studied for monolayered and multilayered molecules of CS 2 and SiCl 4 on Cu(100). It is found that the spectator Auger peak shifts to higher energy side linearly with incident photon energy. Furthermore both the spectator peak sharpening and the splitting of the Auger peak are clearly observed only for the multilayered samples. The results obtained are explained in terms of both the Auger resonant Raman effect and the weak core-hole screening by conduction electrons of the substrate.
