Abstract

Teaching capacity development for learners identifying as an educational innovation goal of many countries. To gain this goal, it is necessary to innovate from content, programs, and teaching methods. The General Education Program in 2018 has identified general competencies and core and specific competencies of each subject that need to be developed for students. In teaching chemistry, the ability to understand the natural world from a chemical perspective is one of the three specific competencies in chemistry. To teach and develop students' capacity, many different methods can be used with different teaching methods. The article proposes a framework for understanding the natural world from a chemical perspective, including 6 component competencies; propose 5 construction principles and a seven-step process to develop case exercises to develop students' ability to understand the natural world from a chemical perspective. Applying the proposal to use case exercises to develop the ability to learn about the natural world from a chemical perspective in teaching about nitrogen and nitrogen compounds - Chemistry 11. The results of the study initially confirmed the feasibility of the proposal, contributing to improving the quality of chemistry teaching, meeting the requirements of the General Education Program in 2018.
