Abstract

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are small membrane-enclosed particles that are released by cells into the extracellular environment. They are increasingly recognized as key participants in intercellular signaling where they may either promote or prevent vascular injury depending on the context. Moreover, as their molecular composition is reflective of their cell/tissue of origin, they are increasingly employed as biomarkers of vascular injury. This presentation will discuss key work from our laboratory and others focused on EVs in hypertension and related cardiovascular diseases such as diabetes.
