Abstract
New photometric uvby light curves of the W UMa star RZ Tauri have been obtained, and the differential-corrections method of Wilson and Devinney was used to compute a new set of system parameters. RZ Tauri is confirmed as an over-contact system with q=0.3563 and i81.54°, generating total-annular eclipses. The gravity darkening g=0.83±0.07 places this system between convective and radiative behavior, appropriate for its F0 spectral type. The bolometric albedo A=0.25±0.28 is low, but poorly determined. These light curves were combined with previously-published times of minima to derive a new, quadratic ephemeris, and a previously-published radial-velocity curve was used to determine the mass of the system.
