Abstract

The article analyzes the presentation of Russia’s image in the Chinese mass media. The study of the image of Russia in the Chinese media is carried out in line with imagological research, in which ethno-stereotypes, stereotypes, national and personal images, as well as their perception by other cultural systems are studied. The national mass media, which do not only reflect the reality, but in many cases form the information agenda, constitute one of the most powerful tools for spreading images in the modern media space. The Russian Federation and the PRC are staunch strategic partners and over the past twenty years have been developing cooperation based on the principles of mutual respect, good neighborliness, friendship and mutual benefit. Russia and China interact in the world political arena, supporting each other in various interstate disputes, or maintaining neutrality. The strategic orientation of cooperation between the two states is demonstrated by the fact that it is conducted in many areas: economy, politics, and culture. The information and communication area is an important sphere of interaction between the two countries. A close look at the Chinese media allows the researcher to high- light the following topics in the formation of the image of Russia: Russian-Chinese cooperation; confrontation between Rus- sia and the West (EU, USA); Russian weapons; the personality of Vladimir Putin and his participation in international politics; Russia's fight against the Covid-19 epidemic inside and outside the country; “a militant nation”; Russia as a country of high culture; the image of Russia as a country in an economic crisis. As a result of the analysis, the authors come to the conclusion that most of the materials available in the Chinese media form a positive image of Russia as a powerful strategic ally with great military potential, “indomitable” people and rich culture; an ally, together with China, confronting the threat of the United States and NATO.
