Abstract

We are approaching the fiftieth anniversary of the victory over Hitler's Germany when, one week after the fall of Berlin, those field marshals and generals of the routed and defeated fascist army who were still alive signed a document of total and unconditional surrender. This was the result of the most difficult and bloody war in human history, and everyone acknowledges that the peoples of Russia or, more accurately, the Soviet Union, made the greatest contribution to the Victory and, in the process, suffered the greatest losses. It is not surprising that Victory Day is celebrated in our country as our greatest national holiday.
