Abstract

The contribution provides a survey of theatre studies and the reception of Russian theatre in Italy, assessing how attention to this matter has changed in the last thirty years (1991-2021). The review is subdivided into 1) theatre histories; 2) journals and monographs; 3) works and anthologies. Special attention is given to the theory and practice of translations (or re-translations) of certain playwrights from the classical and contemporary scene. From the analysis, ‘anomalies’ and gaps emerge, for example, the history of Russian theatre combining past and present and contemporary Russian dramaturgy. In light of the data, future research perspectives are put forward in the conclusion.
