Abstract

The article discusses a set of prerequisites (geopolitical, historical, economic, socio-cultural, state-legal) and the immediate causes that influenced the formation of a federal state in our country. The multi-component nature of the Russian Empire is analyzed, which had a powerful system-forming territorial core and a core-forming ethnos. The process of proto-federalization is described, the Soviet-Russian model of federalism and the main stages of its development are disclosed; including the modern stage of adapting federal relations to the tasks of postmodern development. Suggestions were made to improve the functioning of individual authorities.
